Durst increases productivity of Tau 330 with new jumbo roll unwinder/rewinder units

Large roll unwinder/rewinder enable uninterrupted production and less roll changes

Brixen, Italy – February 23rd  2015 - Durst, the industrial inkjet specialist, offers new options for the successful Tau 330 digital label press with the launch of the new industrial scale jumbo roll unwinder/rewinder units. Thereby the Tau 330 can handle rolls of ø 1000 mm diameter or roll lengths up to 4000 linear meters for material widths up to 350 mm.For an easy and fast handling of large rolls, the system features motorized loading and unloading of heavy rolls with a built-in roll lifter.Furthermore, a built-in splice table facilitates easy and fast roll changes. The system is equipped with a servo drive to feed material in both directions.

Omnilabel in Dalfsen, the Netherlands, already used a Tau 150 label printer and recently installed the Tau 330 with the jumbo roll feature. “The new Tau 330 allows us to develop our core competence even further towards high speed digital production,” stated Michiel Smudde, Managing Director of Omnilabel BV. “In addition to the excellent print quality and speed of the Tau 330 press, the new Jumbo roll winder/unwinder speed up production even more, facilitating uninterrupted print production of longer print runs with less roll changes.”

Omnilabel has a large customer base with different requirements, concerning the label specifications and the print run. Most jobs must be delivered within three days. There is an increasing demand for small and medium production lot sizes at the highest print quality. With Durst's Tau label printers, Omnilabel can directly satisfy this demand, and deliver the requested products in the desired quantity and quality; promptly and profitably.

The Tau 330 is equipped with a number of other interesting features, such as the integrated cooling roll for processing thin, heat-sensitive materials, an impressive range of applications and an outstanding print quality of 720 x 1260 dpi, which significantly improves the print quality and generates highly defined texts and intricate details in all graphics and images. Equipped with Xaar 1002 Single-Pass Printheads, the Tau 330 allows printing speeds of up to 48 running meters per minute. This ensures an outstanding production capacity of 950 sqm / hour. The standard inkconfiguration of CMYK can be upgraded on-demand with White and two additional process colours such as Orange and Violet, which are indispensable for label applications with a pantone colour space. Even the standard version of the Tau 330 comes with comprehensive RIP software with integrated substrate- and colour management options. In order to ensure highest productivity with an entirely digital end-to-end workflow, the Tau 330 LFS version features a new in-line digital laser finishing system by the expert laser die cutting company Spartanics. The integrated powerful 1000-Watt laser enables fully automatic job changeovers, while continuing production without interruptions.

The new Tau Low Migration Ink set complys with all guidelines of the European Printing Ink Association (EUPIA), the Swiss Ordnance for printing materials and the Nestlé Packaging Inks Specifications. This ink expands the production range of the Durst Tau 330 to include unsupported foils for applications such as blister packaging, yogurt lids and many other specialty packaging applications. Additionally, the integrated inert gas curing system reduces typical odors of UV inkjet printers to meet the requirements of the food- and pharmaceutical industry for low-odor print production.
